Jung Center of Houston presents The Naked Truth: Nakedness as a Psychological Process. Psychotherapist Anna Guerra explores what needs to be stripped away to make spontaneous, authentic expression possible.

What are the origins of experiences of emptiness, dissatisfaction, alienation, and disconnection from others? Jung's notion of the persona overlaps in interesting ways with the British psychoanalyst D.W. Winnicott's notion of the false self, and both ideas offer valuable insights into the ways we are cut off from spontaneous, authentic expression of our selves. We cover our shame, but perhaps what is most needed psychologically is to uncover it, to allow ourselves to be naked.

Using images from ancient mythology, such as the Sumerian goddess Innana's descent into the underworld where she is stripped naked, as well as images from alchemical texts and contemporary film, we will amplify the meaning of "getting-naked" and its importance to the process of individuation, or psychological development.

This workshop will include lecture, media presentation, and discussion.

Anna Guerra, JD, MA, LPC, is a depth psychotherapist in Houston, with emphasis and training in Jungian psychology. She holds degrees in philosophy, law, and clinical psychology. Ms. Guerra is a frequent lecturer/teacher at The Jung Center, recently teaching the two-year extensive introduction to Jung and analytical psychology.
