    Through a collaboration with Houston’s Brazos Bookstore, Gulf Coast is proud to present twenty-one readers from the University of Houston’s nationally-acclaimed graduate program in creative writing in the Gulf Coast Reading Series. Gulf Coast, a biannual journal featuring innovative fiction for the literary-minded, presents this reading series, bringing writers from the University of Houston Creative Writing Program to the ears of our city. Through the University of Houston's literary journal Gulf Coast, audiences around the world can experience the poetry and fiction of emerging authors.

    October 7, 2011:

    Eric Howerton
    is a third-year PhD candidate in fiction and a fiction editor for Gulf Coast. Before moving to Houston, he studied at Penn State, the University of Granada, and the University of New Mexico. When not writing or teaching, Eric can be found driving to the far ends of the beltway in search of noteworthy taco trucks and death metal concerts.

    Sophie Klahr is the author of the chapbook __________ Versus Recovery (Pilot Books). Recent or forthcoming poetry appears in Lo-Ball, Oh No, Matchbook, The Normal School, TYPO, and elsewhere. Collaborative projects include the creation of monologues and scenic texts with the dancers and artistic director of inFluxdance, for their original work, An Absence of Fences. She serves as the chief poetry editor for the print journal Gigantic Sequins.

    Celeste Prince is a second-year fiction MFA candidate at the University of Houston. Influenced by growing up in Colorado and graduating from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, her writing typically focuses on the experiences of contemporary people of color living in predominantly-white settings. She has attended the Callaloo Writers' Workshop and VONA Workshop and currently teaches creative writing at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. Her work will appear in the forthcoming anthology Missing Pages: a Short Story Anthology (Racen S. Blackstone/Bushwick Media).
