Jung Center of Houston presents Exploring the Inner World of Abraham Lincoln, Wednesday, Oc tober 12 at 7 p.m. This special evening benefiting The Jung Center features a conversation between Jungian analyst James Hollis and Lincoln historian Michael Burlingame.

What does the inner life of Lincoln tell us about our capacity to weather trauma and evolve toward our larger possibilities? The story of Lincoln’s life is suffused with melancholy and deep pain. From his wrenching midlife crisis, to his troubled marriage to an abusive wife, to his legendary temper, aversion to women, and estrangement from his father, Lincoln endured great suffering. But his story also reflects the fundamental human capacity to creatively transform suffering.

In this conversation, renowned Lincoln scholar Michael Burlingame and Jungian analyst James Hollis consider the complex personality of this iconic leader and what we can learn from his profound inner journey.

James Hollis, PhD, is a Jungian analyst, author of more than a dozen books, founding director of the Jung Studies program at Saybrook University, and director emeritus of The Jung Center.

Michael Burlingame is a professor of history at Connecticut College, New London, and is the author of The Inner World of Abraham Lincoln.
