BAYOU CITY CONCERT MUSICALS is privileged and honored to present the 2011 Kim Hupp Award for Outstanding Contributions to Musical Theatre to ROB LANDES, well-known pianist, musical director, published composer, and organist at St. Luke’s Methodist Church. This year the award will be presented at a luncheon on Friday, October 28, 2011 at The Performance Centre of the Ensemble Theatre, 3535 Main Street with entrance on the corner of Fannin and Berry Street. The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m., and the program will begin at 12:15 p.m. Kate Gurwell Rodwell will be the Honorary Chair.

ROB LANDES has excelled in almost every genre of music, from keyboardist with the nationally known rock group, fever tree. Their last CD, Best of fever tree, was released in 1994, and is still on sale internationally. The Rob Landes Trio, well known jazz group, has performed around the country, and he has written arrangements for both Liza Minnelli and Marilyn Maye. Most impressively, he has had his choral and organ music performed in Westminster Abbey. He then went on to accompany the Maginnisinger Choral Group on their European tour that included a performance of Poulenc’s Gloria at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. His playing has taken him to Canada, Norway, and many parts of Europe. He has been Organist and Artist-in-Residence at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Houston since 1996.

THE KIM HUPP AWARD was created in January 2004 by Bayou City Concert Musicals to commemorate the life of Kim Hupp and his passion for musical excellence after his untimely death in December 2002. Kim was BCCM’s first Musical Director. Recipients of the award represent this excellence in acting, singing, directing, conducting, producing, choreographing or teaching in the Houston theatrical arena.

The entertainment for the luncheon will feature a selection from each of Bayou City Concert Musicals’s upcoming cabarets and show – “The Music of Sigmund Romberg,” “George Gershwin In His Prime” and the 2012 concert musical, One Touch of Venus.
