Join Alamo Drafthouse Mason (Katy) for Dynamic Duos: HELLBOY 2 & DARKMAN.  The summer of superheroes may be over but for the Alamo Drafthouse, crime never sleeps. That’s why we’re teaming up with Ain’t It Cool News and 8th Dimension Comics & Games to present a new monthly series — Dynamic Duos.

Once a month, we’ll screen a double feature of two-fisted justice. That’s double the heroes, double the villains and double the capes and tights. From classics to forgotten gems, we’ll provide you with your superhero film fix until the summer of ’12 — where we have some great surprise lined up for the new batch of superhero films.

This month: Hellboy 2: The Golden Army (2008) and Darkman (1990) Since we’re kicking off this series in October, we thought we’d spotlight a few of the darker heroes that prowl the city streets.

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army is a fun throwback to pulp comic heroics. Starring Ron Pearlman and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, the film is based on the Mike Mignola comics from Dark Horse. Hellboy, the inferno-spawn man-devil with the red right hand of doom, is back to protect the world from an army of fairies, sprites and goblins of all shapes and sizes. If you love your fantasy razor sharp and with teeth, this flick is going to blow you away.

We’ll follow up Del Toro’s devilishly fun film with Darkman, an original superhero film clearly inspired by the shadow-drenched heroics of The Shadow and Batman. Sam Raimi (a gentleman you may recognize for his Evil Dead trilogy) couldn’t get the rights to Batman in the early ‘90s so he decided to create his own hero — a disfigured vigilante played by Liam Neeson who fights crime using elaborate disguises. Dark, violent and a whole lot of fun, this movie is 100 percent Raimi.

Come early to this screening because we’ll have games, giveaways and prizes throughout the night. Huzzah!
