Pearland Arts League (PAL) and Pearland Parks and Recreation present their monthly "Corks and Canvas" Art Show. This month, they will co-host a "Best of Show" juried Art Show. Exhibition dates are November 5-27, 2011.

Pearland Arts League President, Naomi Stevens, along with the League's Board of Directors, with the help of Mayor Tom Reid, has been actively working for the past three years to promote all the arts in Pearland. The presentation of a Juried Art Show will lead the Pearland Arts League to the forefront in promoting the arts in Pearland.

Pearland Parks and Recreation Department, under the direction of Michelle Smith, has been instrumental in this endeavor with their hosting of the "Corks and Canvas" monthly art shows at their Bailey Road location. The opening reception will be November 5, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 pm. Awards will be presented to artists at the opening reception located at the Pearland Parks and Recreation 4141 Bailey Road, Pearland, Texas, second floor exhibition space.

Lori Betz, owner of Betz Gallery, Houston, renowned international Artist and Jurist, will choose the art for Pearland Arts League first annual juried art show. Ms. Betz has displayed her art in national and international venues. She has studied in Greece with artist Alan Bain and in Cortona, Italy with artist Alex Deya. Her work has been accepted into the Cultural Museum in Shigaraki, Japan and also the Cultural Art Museum in Houston. In 2010 she was commissioned to create a large bronze for the city of Pearland. This sculpture can be seen at the Pearland Chamber of Commerce.

She is currently working closely with the Houston Ballet to design a series of sculptures. Ms. Betz recently was a judge for the Bayou City Art Festival and will be the co-chair for the judging committee in the fall of 2011.
