The "hottest" event in the Jewish Community is coming Sunday, October 30th, 11:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the JCC.  The 2nd Annual Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff will honor Joshua Berry, who was on the initial organizing committee for the event, by being a tribute to the Berry children.

The Houston Kosher Chili Cookoff is all about bringing the entire Jewish Community together for a day of food, fun and festivities to raise funds for important non-profit organizations in the Houston Jewish Community.

This year’s event is expected to be bigger than ever. The event is limited to forty teams. Jeff Friedman, co-chair of the event, stated that in its initial year the event gathered more than twenty cooking teams, despite the fact that the event was largely unknown. “We weren’t even sure what to expect. We hoped people would show up and enjoy themselves. It turned out to surpass anything we could have imagined. We were thrilled that we had 25 teams compete, and we believe that the forty slots will be filled very quickly.”

“As successful as the event turned out, we learned a lot the first year and we expect the 2nd annual cook-off to be even bigger than last year. Not only is the cook-off an incredible event for the entire community, but we will also be able to honor the work that Joshua did to help make the cook-off a reality, not to mention that we will also be able to help his children.” Everyone is deeply committed to making this year’s cook-off the biggest kosher chili cook-off in the state.

This year there will be offsite parking, the teams will be preparing almost twice as much chili per team, and there will be even more entertainment and children’s activities. The committee looks forward to capitalizing on the wildly successful event last year.

Dallas and Austin both have kosher chili cook-offs, and the winners of those events have been invited to participate. Different organizations throughout the city will also host teams.
