Casa Ramirez FOLKART Gallery announces plans for celebrating Dia de los Muertos – Day of the Dead.

Every year, Casa Ramirez Folkart Gallery owners, Macario and Chrissie Ramirez celebrate Dia de los Muertos - Day of the Dead, a time of festive events throughout Mexico. The roots of Dia de los Muertos lie in the pre-Columbian indigenous tradition of honoring deceased family members and other loved ones combined with the religious feast days of All Saints and All Souls Days on November 1st and 2nd.

In addition, Casa Ramirez (241 West 19th Street in the Heights) will feature the following events:

FREE CLASS on the cultural traditions of Dia de los Muertos is offered by gallery owner Macario Ramirez each Saturday in October at 10 am. The focus is on traditional elements of building a personal altar or ofrenda. The class lasts an hour and a half and reservations are preferred but not required.

A SUGAR SKULL MAKING DEMONSTRATION by Gallery staff is planned Saturday, October 22 at 2 pm.

ALTAR EXHIBIT: A display of personal altars built by family members and other loved one will be on display from Friday, October 21 through Saturday, November 12.

A PUBLIC RECEPTION for the Altar exhibit will be Saturday October 29 from 6 to 9 pm. Traditional refreshments are served. The event is free. The event will include Pan de Muerto samplings, Aztec dancers and a Procession.
