    Houston 175 Historic Cemetery Crawl

    The Houston 175 Historic Cemetery Crawl opens at high noon, Sunday, October 30, 2011, when we will travel back in time. Visit four of Houston’s most historical resting places.

    Houston 175 Historic Cemetery Crawl will commence up and down W. Dallas, between Founders Memorial Park Cemetery, Congregation Beth Israel and College Memorial Park Cemetery then continue at Olivewood Cemetery.

    Travelers will be entertained at Founder's Cemetery by family recording artist Leah White & the Magic Mirrors who kick off the Crawl at noon. Learn about Texas Patriots in their hunt for Texas Independence, the weaponry of the Texian Army and enjoy the harmonies of the North Harris County Dulcimer Society.

    Congregation Beth Israel will be open for self guided tours throughout the day, while College Park opens at 1:00PM where Galveston tree sculptor, Earl Jones will demonstrate his craft, children in period costumes will assist with self guided tours and a commemorative event including a special performance by the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Choir will take place at 2:30PM.

    Olivewood Cemetery will open for historical tours from 2-4PM.

    Beware, the Crawl comes to a screeching halt at 4:00PM.

    This event is free and open to the public.

    Founders Memorial Park Cemetery (Noon - 4PM)
    1217 W. Dallas
    Family recording artist Leah White kicks off the event at Noon, Special Wreath Laying Ceremony with Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia (1:00PM); and the North Harris County Dulcimer Society plays (2--4PM). Living History Tours and Treasure Hunt for Texas Independence continue throughout.

    Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery (10AM - 4PM)
    1207 W. Dallas;
    Cemetery and 1935 Art Deco Mausoleum open to the public for self guided tours

    College Memorial Park Cemetery (1 - 4PM)
    3525 W Dallas;
    Tree sculptor, Earl Jones demonstrates his craft throughout the day; Dedication and Blessing of the new fence (2:30PM) Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Choir; Period attire worn by children.

    Olivewood Cemetery (2 - 4PM)
    1300 block of Court St. off Washington Ave.
