Get ready for a wacky, rhyming adventure! 13 Houston-area children ages 8 - 14, currently the students of Main Street Theater’s Rehearsal and Performance By Audition class, present The SeussOdyssey by Don Zolidis.

Says the play’s director (and MST’s Assistant Director of Education) Jonathan Gonzalez, “It’s a fun challenge because to do a spoof, you need to know the serious thing you are spoofing, so we talk about The Odyssey, then switch to The Cat in the Hat. We are exploring each part of the play and identifying genre…’oh, we’re playing it straight here,’ ‘we really have to play up the rhyme here,’ ‘here you act like a bad, boring narrator of an educational film,’ etc. Look for cowboys, pirates, a wicked witch and some Lady-Gaga inspired siren calls!”

The story is Greek, the style’s Dr. Seuss—we’re giving this classic a new jolt of juice! There's Poseidon and Cyclops and fierce fighting folks, with rhyming and singing and eggs with green yolks—From Ithaca to Troy, oh, the places you’ll go—in this fast-paced and funny R&P show!

The cast is comprised of 13 children from the Houston area and is as follows: Michael Armstrong (77030), Roberto Blas (77087), Grace Burgert (77010), Sadie Dill (77092), Jackson Foley (77056), Elizabeth Hoskins (77005), Sarah Klein (77018), Sarah (Keowee) McNiel (77006), Ashley Mezyk (77035), Ben Russell (77055), Aris Smith (77071), Ryan Thompson (77030), and Kaleb Willis (77008).

Professional artists direct and design all R&P productions. Jonathan Gonzalez is the director. Sandra Axelrad is the Assistant Director. Troy Scheid designs costumes, and Art Ornelas is the set and properties designer. Clara Goodwin is the Student Assistant Director.

The play will be performed Friday and Saturday, November 11 and 12, at 7:30pm, and Sunday, November 13 at 3:30pm.

Performances are at Main Street Theater – Chelsea Market, located at 4617 Montrose Boulevard.

PARKING UPDATE AT CHELSEA MARKET (MAY 2014):

As you may or may not be aware, Main Street Theater's Chelsea Market activities will move to the MATCH once it's built.  The MATCH is the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston and will break ground on May 7, 2014.  We hope to be able to move out of Chelsea market into our new home at the MATCH in the fall of 2015.  There's more information on the MATCH here: http://www.matchouston.org/

    IN THE MEANTIME:
You may have noticed that Chelsea Market has recently lost half its parking lot in a sale to a developer. In addition, our lease on that space has expired, BUT we are being allowed to stay through our 2015 season, providing we can find solutions to some of the parking problems our activities create. This affects all our programs: the showcases on Saturday mornings, our schoolday performances, and our weekend family matinees.  We are very grateful to be able to stay at Chelsea until the MATCH is ready.

We want to do everything we can to help our fellow tenants and our landlord, so:

    • For SATURDAY PERFORMANCES, we have received permission from the Joy School across Chelsea Blvd. to use their parking lot.  If it is convenient for you, please check this lot first for parking and walk across the courtyard to the theater.
    • There's also quite a bit of on-street parking on Chelsea Blvd.

We hope this will also make it easier for YOU as you won't have to deal with the stress of a full Chelsea Market parking lot!
