Long unavailable, Giorgio Moroder's 1984 cut of Metropolis adds a contemporary, synth-heavy score to Fritz Lang's 1927 masterpiece of power and oppression, along with a pop music soundtrack featuring some of the biggest stars of the era, including Freddie Mercury, Pat Benatar, Bonnie Tyler, Adam Ant, Bill Squier, Loverboy and John Anderson of Yes.

In addition, Moroder replaced the intertitles with subtitles, and added vibrant color tinting throughout. The result may be shocking for cinema purists, but this alternate version of Metropolis works surprisingly well in its new pop environs and emphasizes Lang's original intent of exposing the horrors of technology over human worth.
