Bayou Bend presents Two Ways of Living: A Special Presentation and Tour, Saturday, November 5, 2011, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Roughly 600 miles separate Jamestown, Virginia, from Plymouth, Massachusetts, but the more striking separation between these two early American settlements was the difference between the lifestyles and ideologies of their founders. The New England settlers were often characterized by their desire to be free of religious persecution, whereas the Anglican settlers of Virginia had largely economic motives for building a New World colony.

Two Ways of Living, an interactive presentation at Bayou Bend´s Kilroy Visitor and Education Center, explores the distinctions between these two groups, and how it affected everything about their lives, from their diet to their dress, and even their speech.

Following the presentation, guests are invited to visit the house for a tour of rooms with a 17th-century focus that are part of the Bayou Bend Collection.

Cosponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America, Houston Society.
