The Russian Cultural Center of Houston is teaming up with Hans Graf, the Houston Symphony, and renowned restaurateur, Tony Vallone, for a special evening, Old Russian New Year's Eve Celebration. Our first Annual Gala highlights the best of Russian music and cuisine and will bring in the New Year in classic Russian style, on Friday evening, January 13, 2012.

The Old New Year or the Orthodox New Year is an informal traditional Slavic holiday, celebrated as the start of the New Year by the Julian calendar. In the 20th and 21st centuries, the Old New Year falls on January 14, being 13 days adrift from New Year in the Gregorian calendar. And today as in the past, the Old New Year continues to be one of the most favorite holidays among citizens of Russia.

Collaborating with the Houston Symphony, we will be offering special packages that include tickets to the All-Rachmaninoff concert that evening with performances of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto's 1 and 4, featuring Russian pianist, Kirill Gerstein.

Following the concert, a Russian-style New Year's Eve Supper, will be prepared by Tony Vallone at his popular restaurant, Ciao Bella. There will be live Russian music by the group “Gypsies” and dancing.
