    Rienzi and Bayou Bend host the Rienzi and Bayou Bend History Reading Book Club December Discussion Session, a history book discussion series about life in America and Europe in the 1700s and 1800s. Meeting alternately at Rienzi and Bayou Bend, this book club offers free discussion on the second Wednesdays of every month at 1 pm and 7 pm.

    Rienzi and Bayou Bend host the Rienzi and Bayou Bend History Reading Book Club December Discussion Session, a history book discussion series about life in America and Europe in the 1700s and 1800s. Meeting alternately at Rienzi and Bayou Bend, this book club offers free discussion on the second Wednesdays of every month at 1 pm and 7 pm.

    In December's selection, Christmas: A Candid History (2007) professor of religious studies Bruce David Forbes provides a thoughtful, very readable analysis of how the Christmas modern Americans recognize came to exist. He discusses the role of religious belief, commercialism, popular sentiment, and other forces in creating the holiday we know and provides an informative background for the objects and images that are part of Christmas celebrations today.

    The December discussion session will be at Bayou Bend.
