While the Dutch and Flemish Masters of 17th centuries are gracing the walls of the MFAH, once Houston-based Dutch artist Maria Smits and museum curator Jetteke Bolten-Rempt are "invading" Houston with five contemporary artists from the Netherlands.  The works of Demiak (Maarten Demmink), Jessica Muller, Hans de Bruijn, Christine Bittremieux and Anna Bolten for the first time on view at Box 13 ArtSpace and the Williams Tower Gallery in November through January, all tackle the common theme of space and the lack thereof, be it interior, conceptual, or exterior, and share insight into the Dutch cultural and artistic traditions, each through their unique interpretation of the landscape, use of medium, style and dimension.

Starting November 19 - January 6, Box 13 ArtSpace features work of all five artists. The show will officially open December 10 with a panel discussion followed by a reception.

Different pieces by the same artists on view at the Williams Tower Gallery will be celebrated during an opening reception December 8, and remain open to the public through January 6, 2012. The artists will be present at both openings.

Complementing the shows, Hans de Bruijn will present a lecture on "Romanticism in Dutch Painting Revisited" at the UH Fine Arts Building November 17.

Dutch invasiON has been made possible by the initiative and support of Box 13 ArtSpace and is funded in part by a grant from the City of Houston's Mayor's City Initiative Program through the Houston Arts Alliance.
