The Deutser Art Gallery at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston will host FOCUS: The Wildlife Photography of Stephen Kaufman from Tuesday, December 6 to Tuesday, January 17. Families are invited to Go Wild at the J! with a visit from the Houston Zoomobile and animal-related art activities and meet the artist Sunday, December 11 from 1:00-4:30 p.m. All activities take place at the ERJCC located at 5601 S. Braeswood Blvd.

Photographer Stephen Kaufman has travelled around the globe photographing exotic wildlife. The FOCUS exhibit is a compilation of more than 30 species Kaufman has captured on film. He credits his creative drive to the failure of becoming a pianist as a child. He turned to photography as an alternative outlet. Decades of observation and practice, including extensive travel with some of the world’s most admired nature photographers, have resulted in an impressive portfolio of wildlife images from the world’s most remote and exotic locales. More than seventy of these works have been curated into FOCUS and provide a beautiful summary view of the vast body of work that Stephen Kaufman has chronicled in a series of self-published books.

The exhibit captures multiple vivid and spontaneous moments in habitats all over the world. From tigers in India to penguins in Antartica, the images are shot with a keen eye toward composition, light and motion and convey beautifully the habitat and subject.
