Paula Held's music draws from early jazz standards and 60s folk icons Joni and Dylan, rendering a sophisticated pop and folk-pop sensibility that defies classification. With DRIVE, Paula's debut album, recorded after 30 years of gestation, study, child-rearing and "madness" for her muse, she creates, with the help of veteran producer Stephen Doster (Betty Soo, Gold Cure) a journey of inexplicable longing. Her melodies are intoxicating, the songs are a fine wine for the heart, and her voice reaches deep and sweet and calls "listen," and you to want to turn the volume up.

While DRIVE speaks of love's fickleness as reflected in the heavenly bodies, Paula's newer project, tentatively entitled Sangre Triste, is a departure from that safe platform, and delves into the siderooms of the heart one hesitates to enter. These are stories of individuals caught in uncompromising situations and their journeys of release. They are tender and bold, panoramic and intimate, poetic and straightforward.
