The Jung Center of Houston and Music Doing Good present a Special Musical Performance: Memories, Dreams, Reflections: Looking Inward – Jung in Words and Music. Performances Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28. Come listen to an evening of music and dramatic readings in The Jung Center's beautiful gallery in this second collaboration with Music Doing Good.

Music Doing Good continues the mission of philanthropy through music with Memories, Dreams, Reflections: Looking Inward – Jung in Words and Music. This event takes the audience on a special journey of the soul through music, commentary and dramatic readings based on Jung’s memoir, Memories, Dreams, Reflections.

The program is presented in collaboration with Music Doing Good core artists Rodney Waters, Kenneth Gayle, Aaron Kaufman, Ray Younkin and Anita Kruse. The Jung Center director Jerry Ruhl will speak about the relevance of Jung’s work in the 21st century and readings will be given by board member James Conlan.

Carl Jung was a pioneer of the unconscious -- that mysterious but marvelous universe of unseen energies, potentials and guiding forces that exist within each of us. It is a larger realm than we realize most of the time, one that seemingly has a life of its own and runs parallel to the ordinary life we live, day to day. The unconscious is the fount of all art, healing and renewal, the creative source of civilization. Each of us, in our lifetime, must serve as a container in which the evolution of consciousness is carried forward.

As Jung states in his memoir, “…I exist on the foundation of something I do not know. The world into which we are born is brutal and cruel, and at the same time of divine beauty. Which element we think outweighs the other, whether meaninglessness or meaning, is a matter of temperament…Life is – or has – meaning and meaninglessness. I cherish the anxious hope that meaning will preponderate and win the battle.”

Music selections to illuminate the words of Carl Jung include Scenes from Childhood by Robert Schumann,  I Hear an Army by Samuel Barber, The Egyptian Woman by Claude Debussy and River of Dreams by Billy Joel to name a few. Central themes to the performance include the exploration of dreams, childhood memories and myths, the source and elevation of creativity, finding meaning in our lives and the surrender to something greater than ourselves.
