The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston presents the 32nd Annual Dance Month at the Kaplan Theatre January 11- February 12, 2012.

Mixed Bag is an exhilarating array of young Houston Dance, featuring Houston Met Too, Inertia, Kennedy Dance Theatre/Jeté, and Uptown Dance Company II.

The Houston Met Too, the pre-professional training company of the Houston Metropolitan Dance Company, is a non-competitive concert based repertory dance company that is a product of the growth of the school and also functions as a training ground for students going on to college dance programs or a professional career. The The Houston Met Too creates the setting for young dancers that is needed to acquire the skills in working with professional dance companies. The program also works to instill a professional work ethic necessary for dance and beyond.

Inertia is the elite performing ensemble representing the Westside Dance Program. This group is nationally recognized with over 30 national titles from competition, performances in New York City, Chicago, New Orleans, Miami, features in People Magazine, Dance Teacher and Southern Living as well as appearances on CBS Early Show, The Tony Danza Show, and all local affiliates. Inertia has been featured half-time performers for the NBA San Antonio Spurs and the Houston Symphony. Most recently Inertia traveled to Suzhou and Beijing, China as representatives of the United States at the 8th China International Folk Art Festival.

Jeté, the pre-professional dance company at Kennedy Dance Theatre, was formed in 2009 to provide additional training and performance opportunities for dancers who wish to pursue a professional dance career or plan to study dance in college. Jete’s director, Milena Leben, international prima ballerina and choreographer, has created an environment for her students to not only come and be instructed at the highest level of excellence, but to also learn about self-discipline, a strong work ethic and build friendships that will last a lifetime.

Uptown Dance Company II presents contemporary, diverse and innovative choreography created to expand the imagination of the dance audience. Uptown Dance Company II is a pre-professional company for students who wish to pursue a career in dance. Being a member of the company gives young dancers an opportunity for intensive training and performance exposure.

Mixed Bag will be presented Saturday, January 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets for Mixed Bag are $16 ERJCC member/ $22 public/ $12 senior adult and student.
