Wednesday, January 11 at 6:30pm in the Spacetaker Artist Resource Center (ARC).
Perfect for anyone interested in creating new theater, dance, and multi media works, plus those interested in world religions, feminism, and mythology
One of the artists at the core of Montreal’s reputation for inventive multi-disciplinary creations, Dulcinea Langfelder will perform the U.S. Premiere of her witty and captivating production, Dulcinea’s Lament on January 14, at the Wortham Center. In a kind of Brechtian cabaret performance that mixes live music, song, dance, puppetry, and ingenious multi-media, the spectacle begins with Dulcinea de Toboso examining just how Don Quixote imagined her to take a broader look at how mankind has “imagined” women across cultures and civilizations.
Join Ms. Langfelder and Technical Director Vicente Santes for a talk-back on the creation of this work entitled “Picking up the Pieces from the Cutting Room Floor,” which refers to the elements cut from the work as “'too didactic,” as well as the elements of our history that have ended up on the cutting room floor, so to speak.
Dulcinea del Toboso, the “absent heroine” of Cervantes' tale, is an ideal spokesperson to address that which can only be read between the lines… of Don Quixote, as well as other iconic books. Ms. Langfelder will also delve into her research into world mythology, exegesis of sacred texts, the “mystery religions” and the mystical aspects to the Abrahamic religions, and the Middle Ages as a transitional period.
“What if legendary danseuse Isadora Duncan came back to life and tried her hand at stand-up comedy? Imagine the possibilities and you'll be at least partially prepared for Dulcinea Langfelder's Dulcinea's Lament. This multimedia tour de force is nothing short of breathtaking. This is a show that's not to be missed.” THE GAZETTE (Montreal, QC)
