CONTEXT, a Houston-based chamber-music ensemble, presents  CONTEXT: Viennese Virtuosi: From the Early Romantic Age, Sunday, January 22 at 4pm, in Rice University-Duncan Recital Hall.

The early 19th century was a time of tremendous virtuoso performers—who were also gifted composers. CONTEXT brings to life a little-known repertoire by three famous pianist-composers -  Johann Hummel (pictured), Carl Maria von Weber, and Anton Eberl, - who created works that combine Classical clarity of form, Romantic extravagance of expression—and unabashed display of chops!

A friend of Mozart’s, Eberl wrote music of startling dramatic invention; Hummel toured extensively and was famed for his grace and elegance; and Weber was one of history’s greatest opera composers.

Performed on 1810 Rosenberger piano and original string and wind instruments.
