Rice University Shepherd School of Music presents Romance X 3. On the occasion of Rice University's centennial year, the Shepherd School is presenting several celebratory performances, beginning with our spring opera production, Romance X 3. On March 19 and March 21, we move from the intimate black-box setting of Wortham Opera Theatre to Stude Concert Hall, our largest performance venue, to kick off the centennial in grand style.

Love will be in the air as the Shepherd School Opera, Chamber Orchestra, and Rice Chorale join forces to present a trio of acts from Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss, Jr., Roméo et Juliette by Charles Gounod, and La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini.

In an inventive combination, Director of Opera Studies Richard Bado has selected one act to be performed from each work, resulting in a multi-faceted portrayal of love in all its humor, glory, and fragility.

Although these three plots may be well known to many, the twist comes as the characters of each opera cast romance in the lead role. Join us for these spectacular performances showcasing the Shepherd School's full spectrum of musical talent - a true ensemble cast of opera, orchestra, and chorus.

Richard Bado conducts this production, which is directed by Edward Berkeley. Monday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 21. Both performances begin at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $10.00; $8.00 for students and senior citizens. For tickets call the Shepherd School Concert Office at 713-348-8000.
