Nau-haus Art Space presents Alice Leora Briggs: Abecedario. Opening reception Saturday, February 4, 6 to 9 PM. The exhibition runs through Saturday, February 25, 2012.

Alice Leora Briggs has dedicated herself to taking an unabashed look at the terror of Juarez, Mexico-a site under siege by rampant gang and drug related violence. Using an old etching technique from the 13th century called sgraffito, Briggs cuts through dark wood to reveal images of what was laid before her eyes.

An Aderson Ranch residence recipient, the artist is known for her draftsmanship. The core of Briggs' work is drawing, printmaking and installation. A 2011 Fulbright Scholar (Slovakia), her recent collaboration with writer Charles Bowden, Dreamland: The Way Out of Juarez, was published by University of Texas Press in April.

Born in Borger, Texas, Alice Leora Briggs, received a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa. She has taught painting, drawing, and other media at several universities and art schools throughout the country including The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Iowa, and University of Arizona.

Her works have been featured in numerous exhibitions including venues at the Missoula Museum of Arts (Montana), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago), Salt Lake City Art Center (Utah), Cedar Rapids Art Museum (Iowa), New Mexico State University (Las Cruces), Utah State University (Logan), City Museum of Bratislava (Slovakia), Des Moines Art Center (Iowa) and de Young Museum (San Francisco).
