The Brilliant Lecture Series: A Conversation with George Clooney

The Brilliant Lecture Series presents A Conversation with George Clooney, Thursday, May 3 at 7pm in the Wortham Theater Center's Brown Theater. The evening's topic will be Hollywood Humanitarianism:  To Whom Much is Given, Much is Expected.

Academy award winner, director and United Nations Messenger of Peace, George Clooney, will be the next featured speaker in the Conversation with Brilliance series. Clooney will speak of his extraordinary career in Hollywood, his humanitarian work in Darfur and the power celebrity has to make a significant difference in the world.

This is Clooney’s first time to speak in this format in North America.

George Clooney has devoted his time off screen to humanitarian causes, including initiating the Satellite Sentinel Project, which combines satellite imagery analysis and field reports with Google’s Map Maker technology to help deter mass atrocities in areas of crisis. He is also the co-founder of the Not on Our Watch Project, which works to bring global attention to international crises and give voice to their victims. A United Nations messenger of peace since 2008, Clooney has been a tireless advocate for resolving the ongoing genocide in Darfur, having spoken to the UN and held fundraisers on behalf of the crisis. In 2007, Clooney (along with fellow Not on Our Watch founder Don Cheadle) was awarded with the Summit Peace Award by the Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, recognizing his commitment to directing attention to the conflict in Darfur.

Clooney has starred in such films as the Coen brothers’ O Brother, Where Art Thou? The Ocean’s series; Syriana, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor; Michael Clayton; Up in the Air; The Men Who Stare at Goats; and The American. He also collaborated with his father on the documentary Darfur Now and narrated and co-executive produced the documentary Sand and Sorrow. Equal parts Hollywood star, down-to-earth everyman, and devoted humanitarian, George Clooney delights and inspires audiences with his intelligence, candor, passion, and humor.

True to its’ mission, founder Scott Brogan, brings someone ‘brilliant’ from international leaders, prize-winning authors and actors, to eminent scientists and business leaders to inspire Houstonians. The Conversations with Brilliance series offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the world’s greatest minds to inspire leadership in Houston’s youth and their families.
