Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Chamber Singers will perform Ordinary-Extraordinary: A window into the quiet everyday moments that make our lives spectacular, on Thursday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m., in the Recital Hall, located in the college’s Music Hall (Building H).

Joined by Misha Penton (pictured) of Divergence Vocal Theater, the Chamber Singers will present an evening of contemporary music featuring settings of poetry in English by composers Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten, Irving Fine, Jake Heggie, Charles Ives, Roger Quilter, Ned Rorem, and Dominick DiOrio, director of choral activities and associate professor of music at LSC-Montgomery.

DiOrio has completed all requirements for the doctorate of musical arts from the Yale School of Music and will receive the degree in May. He received his master’s degree in choral conducting from Yale University in 2008, studying with noted professors Marguerite L. Brooks and Simon Carrington. DiOrio received his bachelor’s degree in composition from the Ithaca College School of Music in 2006, graduating summa cum laude.

“We are so excited to welcome Penton to the college for this residency,” said DiOrio. “Her reputation as a mover-and-shaker in the Houston arts community is without question. She is bringing a great perspective to her work with the students, as she opens their eyes, ears, and bodies to experiencing music from many different angles.”

The evening also includes the piano works of Meredith Monk and features student soloists from the ensemble.

“This is truly an exceptional collage of art, song, and choral works that you won't want to miss," said DiOrio.
