Main Street Theater adds sizzling summer hit to season line-up. Main Street Theater presents Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins, running June 14 – July 1, 2012, at MST – Chelsea Market.

“So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce.  And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was.” --Molly Ivins

Main Street Theater announces the addition of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins to its 36th season. “Molly Ivins was a bold, smart, determined woman who never forgot to laugh,” says MST Executive Artistic Director Rebecca Greene Udden. “This play deftly captures her indomitable spirit and tells it like it is – just like she did.”

About Red Hot Patriot: the Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins - RHP is a hysterically funny, down-to-earth, truly kick-ass story of the unsinkable Molly Ivins, the famously brassy newspaper columnist and best-selling author. A true Texas original, Ivins was a sharp-tongued wit who skewered the political establishment and the "good ol' boys" with her unforgettable humor and wisdom.

Written by twin sisters Margaret Engel and Allison Engel, themselves longtime journalists, the play celebrates Ivins' courage and tenacity.

    About the Production
Patti Bean directs Red Hot Patriot. Sara Gaston plays Molly Ivins. Ms. Gaston has previously appeared at MST in the world premiere of The Rice as well as Present Laughter, The Best Man, Ouroboros, and Margin for Error. Mark B. Robbins plays the helper. The design team includes Jeffrey S. Lane (set design), Eric L. Marsh (lighting design), Shawn W. St. John (sound design), Rebecca Greene Udden (costume design), and Dani Luers (properties design). Eva De La Cruz is the production stage manager.

    Parking:

Parking at Chelsea Market is easy. There is a large parking lot behind the center. Should that be full, a pass through halfway up on the right will take you to an additional surface lot as well as street parking on Chelsea. The entrance to the parking lot can be found on the north side of the building next to the O'Rourke's Steak House.

Though parking at Chelsea Market is easy, getting there may be a challenge with the construction involved with the Soutwest Freeway Project. MST recommends that you allow plenty of time for detours and unexpected delays, as there is no late seating once the show starts.

Arriving early and planning on lunch or an afternoon treat at a Montrose eatery may solve the traffic blues.
