Russian Cultural Center Our Texas presents a Movie Screening: Forgive me, Sergei. Director: Damian Wojciechowski , co-producer: Caroline Walker. Russia, 2004. Thursday, May 31, at 7:30pm.

In September 1971 a 20-year-old Soviet sailor Sergei Kourdakov jumped off his ship near the coast of Canada and swam ashore to start a new life. Two years later he died under strange circumstances. Not long before his death Sergey wrote a memoir “Forgive Me, Natasha “ (also known as “The Persecutor”). Although largely accepted, “The Persecutor” has been met with varied criticism regarding its authorship and accuracy.

This excellent film follows the story of Caroline Walker, a Christian journalist, who believed God had called her to make a film about the life of Sergey until her encounters with his friends, relatives and colleagues in Russia made her question key elements of the memoir.

The movie has earned awards at international festivals:
Semi-Finalist, Angelus Awards, Hollywood, 2005; Finalist – International Student Documentary Competition, Columbia College Chicago, 2005; 2006 Jury Award for Best Documentary at the TriMedia Film Festival in Fort Collins, Colorado; Silver “Remi” Award, Documentary Category, Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival, 2006.
