Archway Gallery presents the Archway Gallery Fourth Annual Juried Exhibition. Featuring guest juror Julie Farr, the exhibition is part of the city-wide ArtsHouston 2012 event and benefits ARTreach, a non-profit arts and educational outreach organization. EXHIBITION DATES: July 7 – August 1, 2012
Opening Reception. Saturday, July 7 from 5 – 8 pm; Juror remarks and awards presentation at 6:30 pm
ArtsHouston Reception. Saturday, July 14 from 5 – 8 pm
Both receptions are open to the public; light refreshments will be served.
ABOUT JUROR: Open themed show juried by Julie Farr, director of Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Farr has led the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft since2007. She currently serves on the board of the Houston Museum District Association, as well as the Visual Arts Review Panels and Program and Services Committee of the Houston Arts Alliance. She is a member of ArtTable and participates in the Texas Commission on the Arts’ Grant Review Panels.
Prior to coming to Houston, Farr served as the Executive Director of the Society for Contemporary Craft and International Society of Glass Beadmakers. She holds degrees from Marywood University and the Pennsylvania State University where she trained as a fine art photographer. For many years she owned an award winning commercial and fine arts photography studio while serving on a number of nonprofit boards in the Northeast, including the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Alliance, where she was an advocate for arts education across Pennsylvania.
ABOUT PRIZES: Three awards will be announced at the opening reception: Best of Show will grant the winner a $500 cash award and guest artist privileges for one month at Archway Gallery. Cash awards will be granted to the artists selected as the second and third place winners.
UPDATE JULY 10, 2012:
Archway Gallery announced the winners of the 4th Annual Juried Exhibition recently during the exhibition’s opening reception. First place went to Ellen Abbott and Marc Leva for “Bee Box Reconfigured;” second place went to Lisa Schell for “American Aphrodite #1;” and third place went to Duane Nowell for “A Quiet Dusk.” The exhibition will be on view through August 1, 2012. A portion of the sales from the exhibition will directly benefit ARTreach, a non-profit arts and educational outreach organization
