    Thursday, August 9, 7pm
A reception for the audience will follow the performance.

Houston's Brazilian Arts Foundation will present an interactive, family-friendly performance of capoeira, a mixture of dance and martial arts, accompanied by live drumming.

Come admire the performers’ agility, and perhaps give it a try yourself!

Capoeira is the national treasure of Brazil; a unique Afro-Brazilian martial art, capoeira is played in a ‘roda,’ or circle, between two players. The game challenges physical agility and coordination, as well as strategy and interaction.

The Brazilian Arts Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing cultural education and building community through the preservation and sharing of Brazilian culture. The organization was created in 2001 to preserve and promote Brazilian culture in the greater Houston metropolitan area. In 2006, the organization established a cultural center in order to further develop and expand its program and performance offerings. Located in the historic Houston Heights, the center provides a home in which the Foundation offers the majority of its classes and workshops, as well as hosts events and educational programs.
