January 26, 2013
FotoFun 2013: Tales from Near and Far, benefiting FotoFest's in-school education program Literacy Through Photography, takes place Saturday, January 26, and takes Houston-area families on an enchanted adventure through some of the worlds’ most celebrated fables and folklore.
Community partners will be hosting booths at the event, including SmileBooth, Bayou City Arts Festival, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Recycle4U, Smile and more.
FotoFun is a family-friendly event where children and their parents watch live performances, make hands-on crafts and participate in entertaining activities inspired by international stories of magic, mystery and merriment.
Light fare and drink will be provided.
This event is brought in large part by our corporate sponsors JPMorgan Chase, BG Group, and H-E-B, our cadre of FotoFest volunteers and people like you!
Literacy Through Photography (LTP) is the in-school education program created by FotoFest International to help students in grades 3-12 strengthen basic learning skills, particularly writing and critical thinking skills. It is a comprehensive program that includes curriculum and teacher training. LTP uses photography and visual imagery as tools to stimulate students’ writing, analytic abilities and communication skills.
LTP has been working in Houston schools for twenty-two years, and teachers widely praise its ability to stimulate students’ engagement in classroom learning by advancing their technical, creative and higher-order thinking skills.
LTP is now used in more than 9 school districts in the greater Houston area as well as various cities throughout the United States.
