KVPAC's Encore Players presents Lover's Quarrels, directed by Kimberly Glover Performances are May 18, 19, 20, 25, 26 & 27, 2012 All shows begin at 8:00pm, except for Sundays which are matinees beginning at 2:00pm Translated by Richard Wilbur, this is a complex 17th century French farce by Moliere, animated by trickery and misunderstanding At its core is a young woman named Ascagne who has spent her life wearing masculine disguises for the sake of inheritance She cleverly marries her sister Lucille's suitor Valere by disguising herself during the midnight ceremony This sets off a hilarious chain of events that changes the lives of all those around Encore Players is an all-volunteer community theater organization that taps into the acting, vocal, dance and stagecraft talents of adults within the Katy-area Either on stage or behind the scenes, Encore Players is home to those who love the theater and want to be a part of bringing that magic to life The eclectic cast of this witty Encore Players production includes Nancy Lewin (Marinette), Rose Nurre (Metaphraste), Robert Hurlburt (Gros-Rene), Summer King (Lucile), Melanie Seidel (Frosine), Cole Pfaffenberger (Valere), Brooks Burford (Mascarille), Adrian Collinson (Polidore), Mark A Russo (Albert), Claire Metusalem (La Rapiere), Paige Hill (Ascagne), and Carson Berry (Eraste) Lovers’ Quarrels was Moliere’s second full-length play, a comedy filled with twists and turns, deceptions and duels well, almost Moliere’s interest, in Commedia del ‘Arte, is prevalently seen through the stock characters The servants, masters and young lovers become stereotypical characters trying to find love, duping the others that get in their way Though the persons of this play are well provided with large personalities and qualities, it is plot, rather than character, in which the complexities lie We discover that something happened some twenty years in the past that causes the turmoil to our young lovers, unbenounced to them sort of Directed by Kimberly Glover, this production provides a fresh, new version of a classical piece because it is staged and costumed in a 1980’s rock & roll fashion with a period twist! “Allow our characters to tell you this story of love, jealousy, and deceit- but in a slightly different manner than Moliere originally intended,” says Kimberly Glover “The marriage of Moliere’s France and a memorable time, in the not too distant past, becomes the backdrop to this comedy in rhyming couplets” It is a visual delight to behold and a jump ahead in set design conception of any Encore Players production to date, by KVPAC’s own Chris Donelson

The Improv Comedy Showcase and Restaurant presents Jon Lovitz This Summer The Houston Improv is proud to present For the first time ever here in Houston The one The only The legendary JON LOVITZ For the last twenty years, Jon Lovitz has been one of the best known comedians in the universe…well, according to his cats For the first ten years of his career, he did plays in high school, earned a BA in Drama at the University of California, Irvine and studied acting with Tony Barr at the Film Actors Workshop After an unfruitful year in New York, he returned to Los Angeles and at the advice of Tony Barr, he began concentrating solely on comedy He began taking classes at the famous improve comedy group, “The Groundlings” in 1982 A year later, after being accepted into “The Sunday Company”, Jon got his first job as an actor for two weeks on the television show “The Paper Chase: the Second Year” Thinking he was on his way, he promptly quit his job at the clothing store…and became a messenger The next three years – nothing!!! Then, in September of 1984, he was accepted into the main company at the Groundlings On March 28, 1985 the Groundlings appeared on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” It was here Jon premiered his character “Tommy Flanagan of Pathological Liars Anonymous” This kicked off a series of events, including getting an agent, a movie (“Last Resort”) and a series (“Foley Square”) on the same day, a voice over for a cartoon (“The Brave Little Toaster”) and the big break of his career (with the recommendations of Larraine Newman and Charles Grodin) “Saturday Night Live”…all this by September of 1985 He has not stopped working since He was nominated for an Emmy his first two years on Saturday Night Live He became known for many characters, including “Tommy Flanagan of Pathological Liars Anonymous” (“Yeah, that’s the ticket!”), “Master Thespian”, “Hannukuh Harry” and “the Devil” He has appeared in over thirty movies, including “Big”, “A League of Their Own”, “The Wedding Singer”, “High School High”, “Small Time Crooks”, and “Rat Race” He has worked with some of the best comedy directors, including Penny Marshall, Rob Reiner, Jerry Zucker, and the man who influenced Jon to be a comedian in the first place (when Jon was 13), Woddy Allen He has also worked with such filmmakers as Todd Solonz (in “Happiness”) and Richard Kelly (in “Southland Tales”) Jon has become well known for his distinctive voice He was the lead voice of the character “Jay Sherman” in the acclaimed cult cartoon series, “The Critic” and has done voice overs for many other animated features (“American Tale: Fievel Goes West”, “Cats and Dogs”, “Eight Crazy Nights”, etc) He has also worked on “The Simpsons” many times, including creating the character of Marge Simpson’s boyfriend, “Artie Ziff” (which sounds suspiciously like Jay Sherman) He has appeared on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre in Neil Simon’s play “The Dinner Party”, taking over the lead role from Henry Winkler He has sung (yes, he can sing!) at Carnegie Hall three times (including “Great Performances: Ira Gershwin at 100: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall) and sung the National Anthem at Dodger Stadium and the US Open And he sung with English rock star, Robbie Williams at the Royal Alpert Hall and appears on his album, “Swing While You’re Winning!” He was the first famous guest star on the hit show “Friends” and guest starred on “Seinfeld” the same week In 2005 he guest starred three times on the hit show “Las Vegas” in a recurring role In 2006, he was offered (and accepted) a recurring role on the hit show “Two and a Half Men”, playing Charlie Sheen’s nemesis, Archie Baldwin A few years ago, he pursued his dream of becoming a stand-up comedian He is one of few performers to start as an actor and then become a stand up and is now successfully headlining in nightclubs, theatres, and casinos across the country (a BIG THANK YOU TO DANA CARVEY!!!!) “I’ve had a great career I’ve been very fortunate and I would be remiss not to give credit to my great teachers, Ashley Carr, Robert Cohen, Stuart Duckworth, Bill Needles, Tony Barr, Warren Robertson, Randy Bennett, and Phyliss Katz” In 2006 he appeared in four feature films: Mel Brook’s “The Producers: The Musical”, Adam Sandler’s “The Benchwarmers”, Richard Kelly’s “Southland Tales” and Amy Heckerling’s “I Could Be Your Woman” (where he plays Michelle Pfeiffer’s ex-husband… and Jon left her, just so you know!)

What becomes of the child on the mysterious road to adulthood? What is it like to grow old? What does it mean to die? The Improv Comedy Showcase and Restaurant presents Gary Owen Gary Owen has been entertaining America for over a decade with his side-splitting comedy performing in all of the major comedy rooms across America More recently Owen headlined in the ever popular, Mike Epps Presents: Live from the Club Nokia This hilarious stand-up showcase was filmed live at a sold-out Club Nokia in Los Angeles Funny man Owen and was able to deliver top rated laughs and gut busting humor Owen can also been seen in the scene stealing role of “Bearcat” in MGM’s Movie COLLEGE Owen joined the cast of Tyler Perry’s extremely successful HOUSE OF PAYNE Perry met Owen on the Tom Joyner Morning Show (on which Owen is a regular) and immediately knowing he wanted to work with him, Perry wrote Owen into the show as the new barber, Zach Additionally, Owen has been seen in such films as LITTLE MAN with the Wayans Brothers, REBOUND, and DADDY DAY CARE with Eddie Murphy Owen was always the class clown growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio After high school, he got serious and enlisted in the Navy He was chosen for the prestigious Presidential Honor Guard However, spinning rifles and carrying flags for George Bush and Bill Clinton turned out to be the wrong job for a funny guy "I was always smiling," he remembers, "I got yelled at for smiling all the time" After leaving his ceremonial position, Owen became a military police officer at the Naval Installations on Coronado Island in San Diego, but he says he was too much of a pushover to be a cop Owen only made two arrests in three years, but during that time he embarked on his true calling: stand-up comedy One night while hanging with his service buddies, Owen worked up the nerve to go at a nightclub After only a year of doing stand-up, he was named "Funniest Serviceman in America" Owen continued doing stand-up in San Diego, and had a huge African American fan base He went onto win the "Funniest Black Comedian in San Diego" contest That led to his first big gig at the Comedy Store in Hollywood Then in July of 1997 he auditioned for BET's COMICVIEW Two appearances on the multi-cultural comedy showcase won him his own one-hour "Grandstand" show At the end of the season he was selected from the year’s four "Grandstanders" to be the host Not only is Owen the only white man to have ever hosted COMICVIEW, but he is the only white on-air personality the network has ever had Owen is active on twitter at twittercom/garyowencomedy Owen has produced two stand-up DVDs: BREAKIN’ OUT THE PARK and URBAN LEGEND

KD Productions presents the KD Productions Sr Company Production Class Conducted and designed by certified EC-12 educators Senior Company is designed for performers ages 12-17 years of age This 8 week production class meets once a week in the evenings (in order to more authentically simulate a rehearsal environment) and focuses directly on the skills needed to produce a musical theatre play performance Students are expected to make a strict commitment to miss no more than one rehearsal and fully commit to the process of collaborating in a cast setting in order to produce the best show possible both as an individual and as a group Designed with the developing young adult actor in mind, we focus on improving acting skills such as character development and character movement We also seek to assist in developing and refining the singing/speaking voice of company members and their ability to perform dance choreography in conjunction with a performance Company members will also be taught and expected to master stagecraft concepts such as blocking, projection and stage direction to help increase confidence and deliver a compelling performance At the end of the three week session the students will be expected to attend dress rehearsal and perform 2 productions of the full length musical, Wonderland, Alice through the Looking Glass, featuring iconic characters from the classic Lewis Carroll tale with an edgy and fun new twist
