Master Hsing Yun has inspired the selfless devotion of over 1,000 monastic as well as the ardent support of many lay devotees to assist him in bringing confidence, joy, hopes, and providing service to countless others since the Master founded Fo Guang Shan in 1967.

Presently, Fo Guang Shan has more than 200 branches scattered throughout the world with the purpose of carrying out the goals of propagating Humanistic Buddhism.

Fo Guang Shan has evolved from a mountain-top bamboo forest in its early days to one of the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan and recognized internationally as a Buddhist religious center. It has been dedicated since its very inception to the establishment of Pure Land on earth. By striving to bring to others faith, happiness, hope, and comfort from sorrows, Fo Guang Shan works to actualize a dynamic and humanitarian Buddhism appropriate for the contemporary world.

Chung Mei Temple is the newest addition to the existing Fo Guang Shan's IBPS Houston branch in Texas. The temple served as a center for Buddhist devotees to continue propagating the Fo Guang Shan's Four Essence so that the establishment of Pure Land on earth through Humanistic Buddhism can be achieved.
