    The Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council (GINTC), a community-based volunteer organization, was formed in 2004 by a coalition of Galveston residents, many of whom had been involved over the previous two years in FeatherFest, an annual Galveston birding festival. However, GINTC's current Board of Directors, Board of Advisors, and membership represent a wide range of interests, and are not confined to just those with birding activities.

    This diversity is reflected in our mission statement:
    "To enhance the quality of life on Galveston Island for its citizens and visitors by developing nature-based educational and recreational activities and promoting public awareness of the value of nature tourism and the value of natural habitats and resources."
