Painting was always a private endeavor for Tran and only in the last few years has she shown her work in public. As a panacea for stress, anxiety and insomnia while studying for the MCAT to gain entrance into medical school, she found that the vibrant colors could literally illustrate the emotions that she could not express verbally. So painting began to heal the schism within her – knowing that she was pursuing medicine not out of passion, but out of obligation. The story ends well in that the artist in her won the battle and painting is now the focus of her career and life.

Color is a major element in Tran’s paintings. She feels with deep, bright colors even before deciding on her subject matter. Tran’s art is an expression of her persona and is often influenced by interpersonal relationships. “Painting provides a respite from my hectic life, but it also a time of renewal for me…a quiet, comforting time to work things out in my head. I see it as my way to give back, on my terms.” She includes a charity component to each of her public exhibitions.
