Shel Silverstein's love of language, and his unbridled imagination, blend smoothly into a evening of comic vignettes, but with a bite and sensibility that will stick with you long after the laughter has died. A tattered bed becomes a magic boat. and the desperate married couple on it, and the two limp dolls, wreak a havoc that Shakespeare might shy from. A man accosts a woman with a litany of synonyms for female breasts, but instead of fleeing, she retorts with an even longer list for a a man's appendage. And a thuggish interrogation of the wretch who drew the first smiley face, and coined the phrase "Have nice day" make us realize we live in an homogenized world where language is debased instead of elevated. But elevation, and elation, is what Shel does best. So, for an evening of sophisticated humor and simple raw fun, hie thee to the Obsidian Art Space to enter a wonderful world of theatrical gems presented far too seldom. And brought to vibrant life by gifted actors. Collapse
