Copper is the foundation of each mobile or stationary creation, whether it be copper wire, rods, tubing, sheets, or any combination, in gauges from 24 to 12. After each wire is straightened, I sculpt it into my desired shape while hanging, wrapping and weaving crystal and unique ornaments into the creation along the way. I use primarily Swarovski-Strass Austrian crystal as the centerpiece of the mobile “Sun Chimes. At each step in the wire-bending-sPam Pickeringhaping process I anneal (harden) the wire.”
Pam’s creations come from her imagination or memories. She is particularly fond of childhood stories about foreign lands and imaginary places. Many of wire creations come from those memories. She says, “I create with the hope that I can evoke the feelings and images that entranced me way back when.”
Starting in April 2004 Pam and Don began incorporating their own lampwork beads, fused and slumped glass into their artwork, although they will always want to incorporate Swarovski™ crystal because of the brilliant rainbows quality of their crystals.
