The date of August 18, 2000, is forever etched in the minds and hearts of Eddie and Uchenna Conley. That was the day they lost their 11 month--13 day old beloved daughter, U'jana Arnell Jasari, to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Soon thereafter, the Conley’s discovered they were expecting a second child. After the birth of their son, Elazar, a heightened sense of worry manifested because he had to be placed on a monitor and began seeing a new pediatrician at the Southwest SIDS Research Institute. Inevitably, uncertainty and painful memories made rest and peace of mind non-existent.

During this most challenging time of intense emotions and feelings, the Conley’s received enormous support from extended family and friends. This strong support network provided the life-saving assistance needed to cope with the great pain associated with losing U’jana and the potential health crisis of Elazar.

Needless to say, the following two years of the Conley’s lives were filled with many life-defining moments.

In the months following Elazar’s birth, the family discussed honoring U'jana in a way that would give her death meaning. May 2002, the Conley's founded The U'jana Conley Foundation for SIDS. With determination and hard work, the U'jana Conley Foundation's Vision 2007 comprises a five-year plan to build its endowment to more than $5,000,000 for research and support services in the fight against SIDS.
