La Tempestad/Cuadro La Tempestad
The dance of the gypsies has been Tempestad’s lifelong passion. A recognized performing artist with national acclaim, Tempestad is known for her rigorous devotion to the beauty and art of traditional Flamenco technique. She began as a child taking lessons at New York City’s Carnegie Hall, progressed to major productions in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and now performs as a featured artist with Del Espadin Baile Español and teaches alongside her mother, Maria Del Espadin, at Del Espadin Flamenco & Spanish Dance Academy in Houston, Texas.
In contrast to today's highly choreographed and much rehearsed flamenco, Cuadro La Tempestad treats audiences to the experience of creativity in the moment. This dynamic group of flamenco artists conveys all the spontaneity and intensity of a genuine gypsy "juerga". Cuadro La Tempestad presents the age-old traditions of flamenco with unparalleled authenticity. With fiery and explosive dancing, no-frills "jondo" singing and passionate guitar playing, the Cuadro allows audiences to experience the dark and unique essence of true "duende".
