UPDATE AUGUST 30, 2011: The Jewish Community Center of Houston announces its new name, the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center of Houston. The JCC Board of Directors and general membership recently approved the name change as a result of a generous gift from Jerry and Linda Rubenstein.
Evelyn Rubenstein was a generous, involved community leader; a businesswoman and mentor ahead of her time; and a devoted and loving mother.
“My parents expected me to share and give,” said Jerry Rubenstein, Evelyn’s son. “I was taught that this was my duty and obligation. It is the highlight of my life to be able to do this and carry out their wishes.”
“This is a generous and fitting way of giving back to the community and honoring his mom and dad,” said Executive Vice President Joel Dinkin. “This gift also recognizes how much the JCC means to the community and to Jerry, and how important the JCC will be in the future.”
