Houston Grand Opera

Founded in 1955 through the joint efforts of Maestro Walter Herbert, former singer Edward Bing, and Houston cultural leader Mrs. Louis G. Lobit, Houston Grand Opera (HGO) is one of the United States’ premier opera companies.

The company has a unique, delicately balanced approach to programming and a reputation for reaching out to new audiences through many different music theater genres. It encourages the imaginative presentation of masterpieces from the traditional operatic repertoire and is internationally renowned for its commitment to the development and presentation of new work. Since 1973, Houston Grand Opera has presented 30 world and six American premieres.
