    Brigid's Place

    Comment on Facebook

Brigid's Place is a nonprofit organization incorporated by the State of Texas that provides a center for the spiritual transformation and empowerment of women through programs, classes, and workshops held at Christ Church Cathedral. New programs at sites throughout Houston have been added recently in response to demand. Brigid's Place is not a religious organization.

For over ten years, seekers - both from Christ Church Cathedral and other churches and places - have been taking part in Brigid's Place. Many are women who have left organized religion yet are hungry for spiritual growth. The women of Brigid's Place seek their authentic selves because, in this search for the gifts God has given them, they are able to respond to the needs of the world.

Brigid's Place has been called "a sanctuary for the female soul." At Brigid's Place there are opportunities to pray and meditate alone or in community, find support and direction in small groups and conversation and within a mentorship program. An academic aspect emphasizes a broad range of topics such as women's voice, gender roles, women's spiritual history, theology and the scriptures, women and work, women and families, and the issues confronting women and men in our evolving society.

Those at Brigid's Place believe that women with a spiritual hunger are looking for a place where asking questions about the meaning of life and the spiritual journey is encouraged. There are no membership requirements. Many programs are offered free of charge and some scholarships are available.

A 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, Brigid's Place began with the financial support of the women of Christ Church Cathedral. An annual giving campaign was established to address the organization's growing needs. A Time For Friends, a special fund-raising event which celebrates shared lives and friendships and reflects the spirit of Brigid's Place, was also established. As the organization expands, so does its ability to hear women's stories, respond to their hungers and passions, and provide a community for nurturing their spiritual journeys. Brigid's Place is named for St. Brigid, a fifth-century Irish Celtic saint who founded a monastery of both nuns and monks. They were known for their wisdom and compassion and their hospitality and healing. The monastery was based on the social concept of equality between women and men.
