Recent successes of the Bayou City Performing Arts have been widely credited to the appointment of James Knapp, as Artistic Director in 2001. Under his exceptional leadership, the men's chorus has grown to more than 100 members.

James is also the founding director of the 50 voice Bayou City Women's Chorus, and the Bayou City Chorale mixed chorus.

Having served as Artistic Director for his first four years, James accepted additional responsibilities in his appointment in 2005 to full-time Artistic and Managing Director.
