HOUSTON HEIGHTS...a diverse small town community in the heart of Houston where neighbors and businesses thrive, children learn and play, and history lives...

The Houston Heights Association is a nonprofit organization formed in 1973 for the purpose of encouraging and promoting the enhancement of the Houston Heights community.

Since its formation, the HHA has been the driving force behind the neighborhood's revitalization.

HHA addresses the scope of neighborhood needs from deed restrictions, community assistance, and crime reduction to beautification, historic preservation, and revitalization.

Today, there are more than 1,000 members.

HHA and the residents of Houston Heights are continually working to improve and enhance the community by fostering a sense of identity and camaraderie.

In 1983, the community was designated as a historic Multiple Resource Area by the National Park Service and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. This designation recognizes the area's overall historical significance as well as the unique value of the more than 100 individually listed private and public buildings that give the Houston Heights its special quality and charm.

In 1991, the City designated Houston Heights to be a Historic District of the City of Houston, and the Houston Heights received an official Texas Historical Marker commemorating the founding of Houston Heights.

Other wonderful features that combine to make the historic Houston Heights an outstanding place to call home are:
Heights Boulevard, a living photograph of ``how it used to be", featuring distinctive turn-of-the-century homes, privately maintained parks, several churches, and a public library and special City of Houston designation as a ``Scenic Right-of-way."

Charming tree-lined streets framed the largest concentration of historic homes in Houston.

The most spectacular playground in the city the ``Heights Playground", completely designed, funded, and constructed by the people of the community.

The unique 19th street historic business district as well as a variety of antique and specialty shops that make the area a Mecca for antique shoppers.

Educational opportunities that include preschool, parochial schools as well as outstanding public schools which feature traditional programs as well as innovative classes for gifted and talented students.

Annual events, such as the Historic Heights Home and Garden Tour, Heights Fun Run, Heights Festival and Holiday Open House. Hundreds of volunteers greet thousands of visitors who come to celebrate the history and tradition of the community at these events.

Warm, friendly people who keep that small-town feeling alive.
