Artist Detail
Bianca Antonia
Choreographer - Dancer
About the artist: Bianca Antonia, considered by many as one of Houston's premier flamenco artists, has made the lifelong commitment to promoting the art throughout her community and beyond. To the stage, this young dancer brings all the force and elements associated with flamenco: beauty, speed, power, and eloquence. Each performance, a creation in its own right, holds the audience in captivation, leaving them yearning for more.
As a dance soloist, Ms Antonia relies upon her childhood experiences in music, modern dance, ballet and gymnastics. In 1992, after viewing countless performances, Ms Antonia began her flamenco career under the tutelage of Lucia Sanchez of Gitaneria Artistas Flamencas. Her dedication and determination in the studio would quickly pay off, and in 1993, Ms Antonia was invited into Gitanerias to perform as a dancer, where she remained for the following 8 years. In 1999, Ms Antonia, appeared in Lucia and Valdemar's flamenco film, "Grafico".
In 2000, Ms Antonia broke away from her parent company and created her own. She débuted her new dance company, Pasion Gitana, at the US Attorney General's Hispanic Festival and performed to the public's resounding approval. Her performances with Pasion would pave the way for bigger stages and productions with her current dance troupe, Flamenca Andaluz.
Ms Antonia has had the privilege to perform on the stage with Paco del Puerto, Faustino Rios, Vicente Griego, and many more of exceptional caliber. She has also been fortunate to study under some of the most influential artists of flamenco to include Jose Molina, Pablo Rodarte, Antonio Granjero, Susana di Palma, Omayra Amaya and Maria Serrano.
