    Cafe Annie

    Comment on Facebook

The first Schiller Del Grande restaurant was Cafe Annie. It was opened by Lonnie and Candice Schiller, along with a group of friends who become investors. When Candy’s sister Mimi married Robert Del Grande, the future of Cafe Annie was set.

Robert had just earned his PhD in Biochemistry, but he had always loved cooking, so he decided to spend a little time in the Cafe Annie kitchen and see if he liked it. He did. Soon Robert and Mimi took over the operation of Cafe Annie; Robert in the kitchen and Mimi up front.

Throughout the 80’s the Cafe Annie reputation grew, with Robert winning every important culinary award – the James Beard Award, Top ten restaurants in America; and participating in some once-in-a-career events – appearing with Julia Childs in her Great Chefs PBS special, cooking for James Baker and George Bush at the Houston Economic summit, and many others. Robert and several other regional chefs created what is now known as Southwestern Cuisine.

In 1989 Cafe Annie moved to a new location on Post Oak Blvd – larger and more fitting for the restaurant’s growing reputation. The new location provided an opportunity for more private rooms and a wine room.

Recently Cafe Annie introduced Bar Annie, the more casual option to the dining room, with its own bar menu of less formal offerings.
