Tony Marron Park
The Park People, a non-profit citizens’ organization dedicated to promoting the importance of parks and green space, spearheaded the effort to development a 19 acre park on Houston's Eastside.
Although Tony Marron Park has been in existence for many years, there were no facilities for the public to enjoy.
Pulling together funding from the Houston Parks and Recreation Department and Harris County Parks - Precinct 2, the Park People are responsible for creating this new $2 million park. The Houston Parks Board managed the private funds raised by the Park People and coordinated the design and construction.
Construction began in the summer of 2004 and all elements of the park except the restroom facility were completed in time for a November 13, 2005 grand opening. The restroom facility was completed by Fall, 2006.
The project involved complete regrading of the site to take advantage of the site's location next to Buffalo Bayou, and construction of the following:
an extensive trail system that will tie into the City's Hike and Bike Trail
five soccer fields
a large pavilion
a plaza with spray features built in to the paving
a large playground with age-appropriate play structures
landscaping and reforestation
