    Armand Bayou Nature Center

    Comment on Facebook

Armand Bayou begins as a collection of small freshwater streams that reach up into central Pasadena north of Clear Lake in southeast Houston. South of Genoa-Red Bluff road, Armand Bayou remains in a natural state with thick bottomland hardwood forest lining its banks. The surrounding watershed however is rapidly developing and highly urbanized. The Armand Bayou Nature Center is an 2500 acre wilderness preserve and environmental education center located in Clear Lake. ABNC encompasses most of the lower reaches of Armand Bayou and Horsepen Bayou. This makes for an extraordinary place in the highly "engineered" Bayou City. ABNC includes significant remnants of three once common southeast Texas ecosystems: bottomland hardwood forest, wetlands, and gulfcoast tallgrass prairie. The preserve is a haven for a wide variety of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Armand Bayou has been designated as one of only four Coastal Preserves in the State of Texas.
