San Jacinto College South: Marie Spence Flickinger Fine Arts Building

    Comment on Facebook

The 45,000-square foot fine arts building is named after the San Jacinto College Board of Regents Vice Chair Marie Flickinger. She was elected to Position 3 in 1995, the first woman to ever serve on the board. She has owned and published the South Belt-Ellington Leader, as well as South Belt Graphics and printing.

The fine arts building offers many unique features to support the college's fine arts program and the community's need for auditorium seating. The 350-seat theater might be used for a stage show production one night and host a local corporation's shareholder meeting the next day.

As a teaching tool, this state-of-the-art theater gives students a hands-on education about the technical side of stage work. A makeup room complete with reflective bulbs provides a Hollywood presence, while an accompanying 100-seat Blackbox theater serves as a venue for smaller audiences.

Music students benefit from two expansive rehearsal rooms, one of which also serves as a recital hall, as well as multiple practice rooms, two music-teaching labs and a music listening library.

The college's dance program, as well as local off-campus groups, take advantage of a spacious dance studio with multi-purpose flooring. Art students enjoy studio rooms for drawing and painting.
