Byzantine Fresco Chapel
The Byzantine Fresco Chapel was opened in February 1997. Intimate in scale (4,000 square feet), the Chapel displays the only intact Byzantine frescoes of this size and importance in the Western Hemisphere.
These 13th century masterworks were stolen from a chapel in Turkish-occupied town of Lysi, Cyprus, cut into pieces and smuggled off the island. The Menil Foundation rescued and restored the works, which now reside on long-term loan from the Church of Cyprus in an intimate chapel, designed as a quiet place for meditation and contemplation.
Open Wednesday through Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM.
Admission is FREE.
