Hobby Center - Sarofim Hall

The ornate opulence of historic European and Broadway theatres is recalled in the handsome interior of the 2,650-seat Sarofim Hall. Hobby Center architect, Robert Stern was inspired by legendary theatre designers Herts and Tallant, architects of distinction who practiced in Manhattan during the early twentieth century. Luxury and fantasy reign, as the Sarofim's gilded interiors invoke a gazebo under a starry, starry night. Sumptuous golden latticework wraps around the hall, while multi-storied, gold-leaf columns contrast with dramatic midnight blue walls. The crowning touch is above - the Joe and Lee Jamail Celestial Dome Ceiling, a breathtaking ellipse featuring twinkling fiber optic stars that replicate the Texas night sky. Every interior appointment has been carefully considered, contributing to outstanding acoustics and amplified sound: the fabric in the seats, the materials on the walls, the ceiling's configuration. The theatre offers three tiers: orchestra, mezzanine, and upper gallery. In this setting, intimacy is heightened, as the farthest seat in the balcony is just 128 feet from the stage. Private boxes, nestled close to the curtain, provide a lovely nook for taking it all in. The Hobby provides the ultimate experience for cultural-connoisseurs with two opulent, acoustically distinguished theaters - Sarofim Hall and Zilkha Hall, Michael Cordua's Artista restaurant and its own above-ground 800-car parking garage.

	TBH Center (Talento Bilingüe de Houston) Talento Bilingüe de Houston is adjacent to Guadalupe Plaza Park, a mission style park and Buffalo Bayou, a few miles from downtown Houston and is in a 16,000 square foot facility leased from the City of Houston Convention and Entertainment Facilities Department. Our facility has a 300-seat theater, rehearsal room, art exhibit and gallery space, gift shop, video and film editing suite, photograph and darkroom space, and administrative offices. The facility was redeveloped with a $992,000 Community Development Block Grant through the City of Houston Housing and Community Development Department in 1996.
	Menil Collection The Menil Collection opened in 1987 to preserve and exhibit the art collection of John and Dominique de Menil. Considered one of the most important privately assembled collections of the twentieth century, The Menil Collection houses approximately 15,000 paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, and rare books. Masterpieces from antiquity, the Byzantine and medieval worlds, the tribal cultures of Africa, Oceania, and the American Pacific Northwest, and the twentieth century are particularly well represented. 	Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens Bayou Bend: A Unique Collection of Americana Bayou Bend, the magnificent home of Miss Ima Hogg, is the extraordinary legacy of a remarkable woman. Best known for her superb collection of American decorative arts, Miss Hogg was also largely responsible for Bayou Bend's innovative architecture and breathtaking gardens. The house, designed by prominent architect John F. Staub, was built between 1927 and 1928 for Miss Hogg and her brothers, William C. and Michael Hogg. 	Eldorado Ballroom The Eldorado Ballroom is located at 2310 Elgin @ Dowling just two blocks from the Project Row Houses site. Dowling Street, once considered the main street of black Houston, was once lined with black-owned businesses including department stores, shops, professional offices, restaurants, and numerous entertainment venues large and small. Following the desegregation of public facilities in Houston that started in the 1960s, the street's economic fortunes began to decline as African Americans exercised their freedom to spend their money and live wherever they pleased. 	Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex UPDATE: On March 1, 2013 Dance Source Houston assumed management of Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex. Located at 2201 Preston St, Houston, TX 77002, BMAC is a 7200 sq. ft. downtown Houston facility housing 2 fully equipped dance studios and a 120 seat theatrical performance venue. The Barnevelder facility is available to be rented by outside groups for classes, workshops, rehearsals, performances and special events.
